Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of winners of the Eighth Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution (Humanities and Social Sciences). Nankai University has 31 achievements winning this award, among which 6 achievements of Chinese language teachers won the grand prize. These 6 achievements include one first prize (Prof. Wang Lixin), 4 second prizes (Prof.Zha Hongde, Prof. Li Jianguo, Prof. Qiao Yigang, Prof. A Cuo) and one youth achievement prize (Associate Prof. Wang Mengchuan).

In 1995, the Ministry of Education established the Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Humanities and Social Sciences in Chinese Universities. In 2008, with the approval of the State Council, the award was renamed as Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution (Humanities and Social Sciences). It has been successfully awarded for eight times so far. This is a major initiative of the Ministry of Education to commend and reward the outstanding achievements of humanities and social science workers in colleges and universities, to encourage scientific researchers in colleges and universities to be rigorous, innovative, and create excellence and promote the prosperity and development of philosophy and social science in colleges and universities. This award is the most credible and influential award in the field of philosophy and social science in China, and is generally regarded as the highest award in the field of philosophy and social science by higher institution. This year, after the expert evaluation, public announcement, consideration and approval by the Award Committee and the Ministry of Education, a total of 1,539 achievements were awarded (including the award-winning achievements of Hong Kong and Macao universities), including 1,241 awards for books and papers and 201 awards for youth achievements. The 1539 award-winning achievements were distributed in 26 disciplines and cross-disciplines.
